Bill Bolz

I have been painting for many years, off and on, and only recently became serious about showing and selling my works through “Brushstrokes by Bill Bolz” and at the Covered Bridge Art Gallery in Rockville. I tell people I really haven’t found my “niche” yet as I still experiment with different mediums including oil, watercolor and acrylics.

I love the vivid colors you can get with acrylics but I also love the soft blending and the “mind of its' own” nature of watercolors. I studied under Nita Engle, Janet Rogers, Mike Capser and Alvaro Castagnet. I think I have borrowed techniques from them all. I also teach watercolor painting techniques for beginners and accomplished artists alike at the Art Gallery a couple of times per year.

For a sample of my works you can look me up on my website,

My favorite contemporary artists are Andrew Wyeth and David Leffel. I also borrowed painting styles from Leffel using his Chiaroscuro technique in oil particularly in still life’s. I live in Crown Point, Indiana but have a lake house on a small lake called Rocky Fork Lake near Turkey Run State Park and Raccoon Lake. That’s how I came to join the Covered Bridge Art Gallery in Rockville and the WVAG. You can also see some of my works at the Gallery in Rockville. I also paint by commission as well.

Painting is still my passion and as Alvaro Castagnet says you haven’t painted until you paint plein air which is outside in the elements. I am also experimenting with this as well. You can contact me via e-mail at billbolz at live dot com or my home at (219) 779-9456
