Organic in theme, my artwork emphasizes life's cycles. As an undergraduate, attending Indiana State University, this theme was directly related to the process I used as I worked-constantly reshaping the look of the entire canvas, creating abstract imagery that grows and dies. Nearly five years later my media has changed, but the organic theme has translated itself into my current medium of photography.
Over the past few years, I have been increasingly drawn to photography as my medium of choice. I especially enjoy macro, or close-up, photography. This type of photography provides a wonderful opportunity to intimately examine growth, change, and the relationships between forms. I primarily photograph plant life, drawn to its colors, shapes, and movements. At the heart of all the work I create is an appreciation of the natural world around me. What was once expressed in abstract form is now expressed more concretely.
My photographic experiences have also enriched my spiritual life. God always invites us to be open to His presence, in every aspect of our lives, including the natural world around us. I too would like to extend my invitation for all to look with new eyes at their natural surroundings. After all, "Life is in the details" (Mies Van der Rohe).
