Laura Mason
Laura Mason, a resident of Terre Haute, was born in Los Angeles but grew up in South Bend. She earned a degree in art education with an English minor from I.S.U. with some graduate work in art history. She has taught grades 1-12. The last fifteen years she's been delighted to teach adults in various art classes throughout the area. Currently she continues to teach painting and creative writing to adults.
For many years she studied with Louise Hansen who encouraged her to develop her own style of expression. Nature and animals are a strong theme in her work. Her landscapes are simplified vistas with dominant skies. She has the talent of making the ordinary extraordinary.
Her watercolors, collages and prints have been exhibited at the Swope, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Paris Bicentennial Gallery, Rose-Hulman Institute, Rockville Covered Bridge Gallery; Y.W.C.A. Book Nation, and Arts Illiana. Two paintings are in Rose-Hulman's permanent collection; one at Paris Community Hospital. She has won many awards in juried shows, as well as judging in several.
Laura is a charter member of Wabash Valley Art Guild, a member of Swope, Paris Bicentennial Art Center, Covered Bridge Art Museum, and Arts Illiana. Her work is included in the video "Artists of Indiana Contemporary Expressions" by the Coalition of Indianapolis Artists.
She has published several works including a children's story book, illustrated a game board, a calendar and published poetry. She also markets hand-made greeting cards.
